How To Close An Above Ground Pool
Preparing your above-ground pool for winter is especially crucial if you live in an area prone to freezing temperatures. Winterizing not only shields your pool from potential freeze damage but also sets the stage for a hassle-free spring reopening. By taking this important step, you’re safeguarding your investment from the harsh winter elements, ensuring a smooth transition into the warmer seasons.
Required Time:
1 – 2 Hours
Supplies Needed:
- Winterizing Chemicals
- Air Pillow
- Winter Cover
- (Optional) Stakes / Bungee Cords
Tools Needed:
- Screwdrivers
- Pliers
Step 1
Remove ladder and accessories from the pool.
All ladders, accessories, floats, and toys must be removed from the pool to prevent freeze damage and to allow the cover to be installed correctly.
Step 2
Vacuum pool and remove all dirt and debris.
It’s important to remove all leaves, dirt, and debris from your pool before closing. Leaving dirt on your pool floor can cause staining and make spring start-up more difficult.
Tip: We recommend vacuuming to waste since you will be draining the pool below the skimmer.
Step 3
Test and balance chemical levels.
Balancing your pool’s chemical levels before closing will help preserve your liner and prevent algae growth and staining. You should test and balance pH, Chlorine, Total Alkalinity, Cyanuric Acid, and Calcium Hardness.
