How to Change the Volts and Wire on a Mechanical Selector Motor for 115V

Difficulty:

Beginner

Some pool pump motors are dual voltage, meaning they can accept either 230V or 115V. When wiring your pump motor, you’ll need to select which circuit voltage you’ll be using. There are two kinds of voltage selectors: mechanical and jumper switch. In this step-by-step guide, we’ll show you how to set your pool pump motor to 115V using a mechanical selector switch.

Tools Needed:

  • Needle nose pliers
  • ¼” Nut driver

Supplies Needed:

Step 1

Remove the Motor Cover

Use a 1/4″ nut driver to remove the screw and motor cover.

Step 2

Switching the Mechanical Selector’s Voltage

Use a pair of pliers to turn the mechanical selector switch to 115v.

Step 3

Connecting Wires Without Quick Disconnects

If you are not using quick disconnects for your wires. Create a candy cane-shaped wire bend to connect the screws to the terminal board.

Step 4

Connecting the Wires to the Motor

Refer back to the motor wiring diagram for the correct wire orientation for your specific pool pump motor.

Step 5

Reinstalling the Motor Cover

Re-seat the motor cover and fasten the screws down with a ¼” nut driver.
