How to Install the PL1103MKITASSY and PL1153MKITASSY for 230 Volts

The PL1103MKITASSY and PL1153MKITASSY are direct replacements for the Hayward Super Pump. The PL1103MKITASSY is 1hp and the PL1153MKITASSY is 1.5hp . They both come pre-set to 230v but have the option for 115v. These are made for an easy, quick connection to your existing Super Pump. This is a Step-by-step how-to guide on installing the PL1103MKITASSY and PL1153MKITASSY for 230 volts.

Tools Needed:

  • Needle Nose Pliers
  • ¼” Nut Driver
  • 9/16 and 11/32 Socket
  • Wrench
  • Lube
  • Flat Head Screwdriver
  • Philips Head Screwdriver
  • Non-contact Volt Meter or Volt meter

Supplies Needed:

  • PL1103MKITASSY or PL1153MKITASSY

Step 1

Turn Off the Breaker Going to the Systems Power

Shut the power going to the old motor off. By turning off the breaker.

Step 2

Remove the Bonding Wire

Use a nut driver or flat head screwdriver to remove the bonding wire on top of the motor and push it to the side so it does not get in the way.

Step 3

Remove the Housing Bolts

Remove the four bolts using a 9/16 socket wrench connecting the motor half to the housing/wet end. 

Step 4

Remove the Old Motor

Use a nut driver or flat head screwdriver to remove the bonding wire on top of the motor and push it to the side so it does not get in the way.

Step 5

Remove the Back Cover From the Old Motor

Use a nut driver or flat head screw driver to remove the back cover to the old motor. 

Step 6

Check to Make Sure There is no Power Going to the Old Motor

Use your non-contact volt meter or volt meter to make sure the power is shut off to the motor.

Step 7

Remove the Wiring Harness from the Old Motor

Use the nut driver, flat head screw driver or needle nose pliers to remove the wires from the old motor.

Note: Inspect the wires to make sure there is no damage before reusing them.

 

Step 8

Take Off the New Motor Kits Back Cover

Use the nut driver or flat head screw driver to remove the back cover.

Note: Be careful when removing the cover to make sure the wires don’t disconnect from the lid.

Step 9

Reconnect the Wire Harness to the New Motor Kit

Reattach the wire harness to the back of the new motor.

Step 10

Connect the Ground Wire

Using a candy cane shaped bend to the right, connect the ground to the green ground screw.

Step 11

Connect the Power wires

Connect one of the wires to terminal 3 and the other wire to terminal 1.

Note: The Kit should have come with Quick disconnect, use them to connect the wires to the motor.

 

Step 12

Reattach the Back Cover

Using a nut driver or flat head screw driver reattach the motor cover.

Step 13

Remove the Volt Switch Cover From the Motors Back Cover

Using a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the cover for the volt switch. 

Step 14

Flip the Volt Switch to 230 Volts

Step 15

Turn the Breaker Back On

Make sure the motor is working by turning the breaker on to give power to the motor. Once you test the motor to make sure it is working properly, turn the breaker back off. 

Step 16

Prep the New Motor for Installation

Lube the housing oring and diffuser oring to make for easy installation. 

Step 17

Install the New Motor Kit

Slide the New Motor Kit into the Super Pump Housing.

Step 18

Install the Housing Bolts

Install the four housing bolts going in an opposite pattern.

Note: If you start at the top right bolt, the next one should be the left bottom bolt, and make sure to not over torque the bolts.

Step 19

Reattach the Bounding Wire

The Bounding wire attachment area is on the back of the motor.
