In this article, we’ll discuss the various VGreen EVO Variable Speed (VS) pool pump motor fault codes, what they mean, how to correct them, and other general troubleshooting.
Century’s new Evo V green variable speed motors’ simple single-button programming design simplifies programming but can be confusing when troubleshooting the fall flashes. Unless you have the 80-page owner’s manual on hand, you’re likely not going to know what those alerts mean. But you already know that because that’s why you’re here.
What is the V-Green EVO VS Motor?
The Century Evo V green vs motor is an evolution of their original variable speed ECM series (1.65HP Version) motors. The ECM series was plagued with quirky design features, making it difficult for pool owners and service technicians. The column of indicator lights, the bevy of buttons, and the repeatedly revised LED display confused pool owners and service technicians alike. The seams in the tactile button interface also allowed unwanted moisture leaks to breach the circuitry compartment.
The V green Evo uses a super simplified single push button design to make getting your new variable speed motor up and running a breeze. The radial LED indicator light around the single button takes the place of the often fragile and commonly replaced LCD of the ECM series.
The motor comes pre-programmed with a selection of run schedules that fit various pool sizes and uses. The pre-programmed schedules coupled with the single-button design means you’re only a few button pushes away from being hand-off.

Evo Motor Fault Flashes
Because it lacks a traditional visual display, the EVO VS communicates fault codes using flashes of the push button LED indicator. The fault indicator will flash once or up to six times t with a pause in between the next group of flashes.
1-Flash – Input Voltage is Too High or Too Low
Check your wire connections to confirm each terminal has a solid connection to the circuit wire. If no loose or faulty connections are found, you may need a multimeter to measure the line voltage. For information on how to use a Multimeter, reference our guide (Using the Proper Test Equipment to Troubleshoot Pool Motors).
2-Flashes – V-Ggreen EVO Motor Current Too High
Cycle power to the pool pump motor, OFF then ON. Check the terminal connections and use multimeter to measure line voltage to verify the Century EVO Motor is receiving the recommended volts. Recommended voltage is plus or minus 10-percent of the wired voltage. For 120 volt circuits, the voltage window is 108V to 132V; in 240V circuits the window is 216V to 264V. For more information read our guide, How To Use a Multimeter to Test a Pool Pump Motor – Voltage.
3-Flashes – Internal Temperature Too High
Shut off power to the pump motor and allow it cool to a safe temp; we recommend waiting atleast 1-hours before attempting to start the motor. While waiting for the pool pump motor to cool, ensure the equipment pad arond the pump motor and its enclosed fan are free of obstruction to allow required fresh air ventilation. 4-Flashes – V-Green Motor Has Stalled
Check the pool pump impeller and the motor shaft are clear of any obstructions. Also, you may want to confirm the total horsepower of your pool pump impeller to verify your chosen Evo vs motor is equal to or greater than the total horsepower value. For example, an EVC165 1.65 horsepower motor cannot rotate a 2-horsepower or larger impeller due to excess drag.
5-Flashes – Internal Motor Failure
Cycle for power off and on to your Evo motor. If the fault does not clear, then you’ll need to contact the retailer from whom he purchased the possible motor failure.
6-Flashes – Communication Lost
Check for low voltage connections between the V-Green Evo motor and application board (3-wire harness). Refer to the Century V-Green Variable Speed Motor owner’s manual’s automation section for more detailed troublshooting. For reference – Automation Compatibillity Chart.
