Choosing the Best Water Tubes for Your Pool Cover

Choosing the Best Water Tubes for Your Pool Cover

Figuring out the best water tubes to secure your winter pool cover takes just a little bit of math and bit of weighing pros and cons. It’s a quick process so let’s get started.

What Is a Winter Cover Water Tube?

Your basic mesh or solid pool winter cover is essentially a tarp that sits on top of your pool water (with an assist from an air pillow) to protect your pool from the winter elements. The spring start-up procedure for a covered pool should be easier and less expensive than one left to the whims of Mother Nature over the winter.

A solid pool cover prevents direct sunlight, most dirt, and debris from contaminating your water, preventing the green stew that uncovered pools become by springtime.

Winter covers, unlike their pool safety cover cousins, do not have a built-in fastening system to secure them to the pool deck; that’s where the trusty water tubes come in. Winter covers are designed with extra material so that the cover’s edge sits on the pool deck, and water tubes can be used to weigh it down from sinking.

Pro Tip: Weave the water tube in the winter cover’s hand loops to prevent the cover from slipping from under the tube.

Measure Your Pool’s Perimeter

Water tubers are available in two lengths: an 8-foot and a 10-foot option. To ensure you have complete coverage of your pool’s perimeter measure the each side of your pool, be sure to include any features like step sections, cut corners, and grecian ends in the measurement.

16′ + 32′ + 16′ + 32′ = 96′ Perimeter
96′ Perimeter / 8′ Water Tube = 12, 8′ Water Tubes

If your pool’s dimensions do not divide evenly, you can get specialty corner water tubes, contour the tubes to shape, or overlap using extra tubes to ensure your winter cover is secure.
