Hello, this is Pool Myths Debunked; Today’s myth is:
“I only need to test pool water when there’s a problem.”
Not only is this wrong, but it’s also costing you time and money. By the time your water looks cloudy or green, the damage is done. What could have been solved with a capful of pH balancer has now turned into a 2-day shock treatment, and who knows what else.
In the summer, the heat, rain, sunscreen, and pool parties are a constant strain on your water chemistry. That’s why staying consistent and testing your water regularly can help you feel in control and confident in keeping your pool safe and clean.
Test your pool chemistry two to three times weekly to keep water balanced, especially after heavy rain, pool parties, or high swimmer loads. Regular testing helps prevent costly issues and keeps your water safe.
This routine testing and chemical balancing will ensure chlorine remains effective (1.0–3.0 ppm) and pH stays between 7.2 and 7.8.
The other, less volatile pillars of pool chemistry don’t need to be tested as often, especially if you use reliable, quality test kits that make monitoring easier and more accurate.
- Total Alkalinity test can be done once a week
- While Cyanuric Acid & Calcium Hardness monitoring can be left to a monthly test.
So in short; Take our tip, dip a strip, and feel empowered to keep your pool crystal clear and safe all season long.
