Poolside Chat Episode #29: Best Above Ground Pool For Salt Systems
This is Poolside Chat where every week we answer your questions on how to fix and maintain your swimming pool. Poolside Chat is presented by INYOPools.com, helping pool owners find the right parts since 2001. In today’s episode of Poolside Chat, Rob and Matt tackle another common swimming pool question:

Now here’s your hosts – Matt and Rob.

I’m the market for an above ground pool and I would like to use a salt chlorine generator. Which pool do you recommend for salt systems.

– Reggie from Massachusetts

That is a great question Reggie. The best pool type to couple with a salt chlorine generator is resin. Resin is a high-impact injection molded plastic that does not rust like a steel pool would. If you have owned a steel pool or left anything steel to sit in the elements for a long time, you’ll know the power of rust. The addition of saltwater to a steel pool quickens the process of rusting. That is why we suggest to any prospective pool owner interested in a salt chlorine generator, to purchase a Matrix resin pool which will not rust.

Saltwater is such a danger to steel pools that a lot of manufacturers void the warranty if a salt generator is installed on their steel pool. Yet another reason to get a corrosion-proof resin pool.

    Matt,
I have a Sam-Lite that the motor is out. I’m on the fence about getting the LED made from Color Splash or the Haward color lights. Can you give me any suggestions as to which one to go with.also i have a Aqua Logic key pad in and outside of the house will this key pad be compatible.? thanks By the way I’m Joe

If you are looking to replace the entire fixture, I would go with the Pentair Intellibrite as they have a better track record for longevity and will slide right into the SAMlite niche.

I just moved from Vt to Va .. I would like a 18′ diameter pool with salt system and easy to maintain filter system. I am 58 years old , live alone. I have a 79 year old Mom that would enjoy it and needs to move around. I do not want to put thousands of dollars into it. I was thinking a Intex pool, of course it comes with a low end pump/filter system , everyone I have spoke to did “upgrades” on theirs.Around my area no one installs them. But I do not want to but a $2500 one installed with a sand filter…Please advise.
