Should I run my heat pump during the day or at night?
‘Better’ is subjective because if you’re talking about your wallet, it’s better to run the heat pump during the day because the heat pump can run more efficiently. This is because the heat pump converts the warmer ambient air and transfers that to your pool. As far as energy efficiency goes, you’d want to run it during the day.
Now, if you’re looking to swim in the morning, and you want it at 85 degrees in the morning, you’re probably going to have to run it at night.
Another thing you could do is stagger the run times during the day. If you have a timer or automated control system, you could run the pump four hours on, four hours off, and you could do that throughout the day and night. That should maintain 85 degrees.
Or, let’s say, you just want to run the pump during the day, you could get a solar cover. Just the traditional kind of bubble solar cover. If you’re not interested in lugging that off the pool every time you want to use it, you can get a liquid solar blanket. A little solar balls or solar fish. If you don’t want to do that, then maybe you don’t want a pool. Now, it still should save you money on your heat pump, electricity bills, kind of works every which way. I think we both answered that correctly for once.
