What is a Pool Cover?
A pool cover is a heavy fabric or plastic-based material laid over your pool to protect it from weather and its elements. The three most common types of pool cover are solid winter covers, mesh winter covers, and leaf covers.
Solid Winter Covers
Pros
- Installed before fall and winter
- Blocks most sunlight, dirt, and water runoff
- The cleaner water makes spring start-up easier
- The least expensive of the three cover types
Cons
- Requires the most maintenance while installed to remove leaf debris and standing water
Mesh Winter Covers
Pros
- Mesh material allows water and smaller p debris particles to pass through, which prevents standing water.
- Requires the least amount of maintenance while installed
- Blocks the majority of sunlight
Cons
- It makes the pool opening procedure more intensive due to allowing water and small debris through
Leaf Net
Pros
- It prevents leaf debris from decaying on the cover, which lengthens the cover’s expected life.
- Used in tandem with either the solid or mesh winter pool covers
Cons
- The process of removing a leaf net without dislodging the mesh or solid cover can be tricky.
